DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — Wiregrass Gives has announced it is now an official Cell Phones for Soldiers drop-off location, giving Wiregrass residents an opportunity to support active-duty military members and veterans by donating unwanted electronic devices.
The nonprofit is accepting donations of old cell phones, smartphones, chargers and other small electronic accessories. Donated devices are securely processed, with usable items refurbished and others responsibly recycled. Proceeds help provide communication support for military members and veterans.
According to Wiregrass Gives, the program helps fund free calling cards, mobile phone service and other communication resources that allow service members and veterans to stay connected with their families.
Cell Phones for Soldiers has served military families for more than 20 years. The organization has recycled millions of phones, distributed millions of calling cards and provided hundreds of millions of minutes of talk time to those who have served.
Wiregrass Gives is encouraging community members to clean out unused electronics and donate them instead of throwing them away. Officials say every donated device helps support programs that reduce isolation and strengthen connections for service members and veterans.
Those interested in donating electronic devices, making a monetary contribution or learning about volunteer opportunities can contact Wiregrass Gives for more information.
