TROY, Ala. — A man convicted in the 2021 murder of Andre Thompson in Troy has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
According to the Pike County District Attorney’s Office, Xavier Edwards appeared in Pike County Circuit Court on Monday, Aug. 10, for sentencing on convictions of murder and certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm.
Edwards was convicted by a jury in May for the Oct. 23, 2021, murder of Thompson.
During Monday’s hearing, prosecutors presented testimony and evidence that included Edwards’ prior felony convictions. According to the district attorney’s office, those included multiple convictions involving shooting-related charges.
Circuit Judge Jeff Kelley sentenced Edwards to life without the possibility of parole for the murder conviction and 30 years in prison for the firearm conviction.
The sentences were ordered to run consecutively.
Assistant District Attorney Kylie Crespo represented the state in the case.
District Attorney James Tarbox said, “Our office is grateful for this sentence and believe it represents the fact that this Defendant has had multiple chances to conform his conduct to our community standards and instead has resorted to a life of violence. Thankfully this sentence ensures that Defendant Edwards will never harm a citizen of Pike County again.”
