ANCHORAGE, Alaska (WDNews) — President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a joint news conference Friday at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson following their talks on the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Trump said no final agreement had been reached.
“There’s no deal until there’s a deal,” he told reporters.
The president added that he plans to brief NATO leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about the meeting, stressing that “it’s ultimately up to them.” Neither leader offered specifics about the discussions, and no questions were taken from the press.
Putin described the talks as constructive, noting shared history between the U.S. and Russia in Alaska and recalling World War II cooperation through the Alaska-Siberia air route. He said both sides recognized the need to move beyond confrontation and to work toward a long-term settlement in Ukraine.
Trump called the meeting “extremely productive,” saying progress was made on several issues, though key points remain unresolved. He praised his relationship with Putin and suggested the two leaders may meet again soon, possibly in Moscow.
This marks the first U.S.-Russia summit in four years, during a time when relations between the two nations have been at what Putin called their “lowest point since the Cold War.”
