Washington, D.C. (WDNews) – President Donald Trump confirmed this week that negotiations to sell TikTok to a U.S.-approved buyer are still underway, with a new 90-day extension in place to finalize a deal.
The president told reporters that protecting American users’ privacy remains a top priority.
“These discussions with China regarding the sale of TikTok have been ongoing at the highest level and they will continue,” White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, said during a press briefing on June 30.
Trump stated Sunday that a buyer has been identified, but questions remain about whether the Chinese government has authorized a sale. Officials did not name the potential buyer.
TikTok, owned by Chinese company ByteDance, has faced pressure from U.S. lawmakers and regulators over national security concerns. The administration’s goal is to ensure the app remains available in the U.S. while placing American user data under domestic control.
The White House is expected to release more details as negotiations progress over the next three months.
