WASHINGTON COUNTY, Fla. (WDNews) — Firefighters from multiple departments responded to a structure fire on Windsong Lane on Thursday evening and were able to quickly contain the blaze while safely rescuing three cats from the home.
According to Washington County Fire Services, crews were dispatched to the reported structure fire at approximately 7:30 p.m.
“Upon arrival, crews encountered a well-progressed attic fire,” Washington County Fire Services stated.
Firefighters deployed attack lines from Hinson Crossroads Engine 80 and WCFD Engine 1 and began suppression efforts.
Earlier updates from fire officials reported that multiple departments responded to the 2400 block of Windsong Lane and conducted an aggressive interior attack. By 8:05 p.m., officials said firefighters had “the majority of the fire knocked down” and remained on scene extinguishing hot spots.
According to fire officials, crews were able to quickly stop the fire from spreading beyond the attic space.
“Crews were able to quickly stop the spread of the fire within the attic space and prevent further extension throughout the home,” the department said.
While the fire was successfully contained, officials reported that the residence sustained extensive water damage during firefighting operations.
Firefighters also rescued three cats from the home.
“Firefighters were also able to safely rescue three cats from the home. We are proud to report that all three are doing well,” Washington County Fire Services stated.
Washington County Fire Services thanked Hinson Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department, Vernon Volunteer Fire Department, Ebro Volunteer Fire Department and Bonifay Fire Department for their assistance during the incident.
“As always, we are grateful for the dedication of our firefighters and partnering agencies who work together to protect our community,” the department said.
No injuries to firefighters or residents were reported. The cause of the fire was not released.
