DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — A newly established Dothan nonprofit is bringing professional classical music to the Wiregrass with two free concerts later this month.
According to Camerata Dothan, Inc., the organization will present its Fall Strings Ensemble Concert Sept. 27 and 28 at First Presbyterian Church in Dothan. Admission is free and open to the public.
“We created Camerata Dothan because we believe that experiencing exceptional live music should be something everyone in our community can enjoy,” Executive Director and co-founder Christy Garrett said. “Our hope is that these concerts will introduce people to beautiful music they may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience, while also providing an enjoyable and meaningful experience for those who already love classical music.”
The performances will feature professional musicians from across the Southeast, along with international guest cellist Alexei Romanenko, principal cellist of the Jacksonville Symphony.
Romanenko will be featured as a soloist performing J.C. Bach’s “Cello Concerto in C Minor.”
The ensemble will feature strings along with harpsichord and lute/baroque guitar, giving audiences an opportunity to hear instruments not commonly featured in local performances.
The first concert will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27. A second performance will begin at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28. Both will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Dothan.
Camerata Dothan was established to make high-quality live classical music accessible to the community. The nonprofit also incorporates educational elements into its programs to help audiences learn more about the music and instruments featured.
The organization plans to present two major concerts each year featuring professional musicians performing chamber and string music.
Camerata Dothan is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, with community support helping make its performances free to the public.
