HOLMES COUNTY, Fla. (WDNews) — A burglary investigation led to the arrest of Douglas Doepel after a citizen provided trail camera footage showing him with a stolen firearm, according to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded Oct. 14 to a residence on Clemmons Road after the homeowner reported several firearms missing. The homeowner told investigators Doepel had been doing work around the residence.

According to the sheriff’s office, a citizen provided footage showing Doepel with one of the stolen firearms. Investigators also learned he had outstanding warrants for failure to appear on a methamphetamine trafficking charge.

Deputies conducted an undercover operation to locate Doepel. The sheriff’s office said he had one of the stolen firearms and methamphetamine when he was taken into custody.

Doepel faces charges of armed burglary, grand theft of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of drug paraphernalia and dealing in stolen property, along with the outstanding warrants.

“Community involvement plays an important role in our investigations. We appreciate citizens who remain alert and are willing to share information that helps our deputies recover stolen property and bring those responsible to justice,” Sheriff John Tate said.
