PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WDNews) — The wife of a Geneva County, Alabama commissioner was arrested after authorities say she allegedly threatened a woman with a firearm following a softball game in Panama City Beach.
According to multiple reports, the incident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. on June 6 in the North Parking area of Frank Brown Park.
Witnesses allege that April Wilks, 46, was driving out of the parking area when a woman was heard asking, “Isn’t that the lady who said I hope they have backup?”
Multiple media reports state Wilks then stopped her vehicle, backed up and displayed a revolver in her hand. Its further reported that Wilks pointed the firearm at the woman and stated, “I can back it up.”
No injuries were reported during the incident.
Authorities said Wilks left the area following the encounter.
On June 15, Wilks was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and improper exhibition of a firearm.
Wilks’ defense attorney, Jim White of Panama City, provided a statement to WDNews regarding the allegations.
“There is another side to the reported story and we look forward to developing all of the facts and circumstances to present the other side,” White said.
White is representing Wilks as the case moves forward through the court process.
