Sandy Springs, Ga (WDNews) – Georgia authorities say they’ve made the largest fentanyl bust in state history, seizing enough of the deadly drug to kill 2.5 million people.
Sandy Springs Police say they received a tip that led them to an apartment where they found pill-packing equipment, weapons, and two suitcases filled with around 240,000 pills believed to contain fentanyl.
Officials say the counterfeit pills were designed to look like oxycodone, a commonly abused prescription painkiller. Smaller amounts of cocaine, methamphetamine, and PCP were also found at the scene.
Investigators believe the drug stash is connected to one of several major Mexican cartels. The suspect, who was not named, has a long criminal record and was wanted in two states.
Authorities say the fentanyl was likely headed for the streets of metro Atlanta, where the drug crisis continues to take lives each year.
