HOLT, Fla. (WDNews) — A Baker man was arrested after an investigation into a domestic disturbance in Holt, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said 41-year-old Chance Phillips went to a woman’s residence despite an active domestic violence injunction prohibiting him from having contact with her.

According to OCSO, the woman reported Phillips grabbed her during a confrontation and threw her to the ground. Deputies said he later grabbed her again as she attempted to get away and seek protection.

During the investigation, deputies learned Phillips suffered a gunshot wound to his leg during a struggle over a weapon. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

According to the sheriff’s office, K9 Vojak later conducted an open-air sniff of Phillips’ vehicle and alerted deputies to the possible presence of narcotics.

Deputies said they found a bag containing a white crystalline substance inside the vehicle. The substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed about five grams.

Phillips was arrested on charges of battery, second or subsequent offense; possession of methamphetamine; and violation of an injunction for protection against domestic violence.

According to OCSO, Phillips was taken to the Okaloosa County Jail without incident.
