BONIFAY, Fla. (WDNews) — A traffic stop for a vehicle without a tag led to the recovery of a stolen firearm and the arrest of an Alabama man, according to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office.
According to HCSO, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on Highway 79 on Aug. 22 after noticing a vehicle without a tag.
The driver provided Alabama identification and was identified as Kelvin Johnson. According to the sheriff’s office, a driver’s license check showed Johnson had a temporary license restricting his driving privileges to Alabama. The check also showed he had an active warrant out of Alabama.
During the investigation, the deputy conducted a pat-down of Johnson and found a Glock pistol concealed in his waistband, according to HCSO.
The deputy checked the firearm’s serial number and learned the gun had been reported stolen in Alabama. HCSO said the agency that entered the firearm as stolen was contacted and confirmed its status.
Johnson was arrested.
Sheriff John Tate commended the deputy for the investigation and attention to detail during the stop.
“This incident is another example of how a routine traffic stop can lead to the recovery of a stolen firearm and the apprehension of someone wanted by another jurisdiction,” Tate said.
