DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — Power outages are being reported across parts of the Wiregrass Friday evening following strong and severe thunderstorms that moved through Southeast Alabama.
Outages are affecting customers served by Dothan Utilities, Alabama Power and Wiregrass Electric Cooperative.
Wiregrass Electric is reporting approximately 125 homes and businesses affected, while Alabama Power is reporting approximately 109 outages in the area.
The areas seeing the most significant impacts include Taylor, Malvern, Cottonwood and Ashford. Outages are also being reported in Cowarts.
In Dothan, Dothan Utilities is reporting approximately 87 residents and businesses affected. Most of the reported outages are on the south and southeast sides of the city.
The outages follow thunderstorms that moved through the Wiregrass Friday afternoon and evening, bringing gusty winds and heavy rain to the area.
Outage numbers may change as crews work to restore service or additional outages are reported.
Residents should stay away from downed power lines and treat any downed line as energized. Drivers should also use caution at intersections where traffic signals are not working.
