DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — Runners will have to do more than race the clock during an upcoming 5K in Dothan — they will also have to watch out for zombies.
The Zombie Chase 5K will be held Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Westgate Trail. Racers will meet and start at the Westgate Tennis Center.
Gates open at 7:30 a.m., and the chip-timed 5K begins at 9 a.m.
During the race, runners will wear flag football belts while making their way through the course. Zombies will be hidden throughout wooded sections of the trail and will try to collect runners’ flags.
Those who would rather do the chasing can sign up to participate as a zombie. Participants must be at least 16 years old, and registration is limited to the first 100 zombies. Medals will be awarded to the top three zombies who collect the most runner flags.
The event benefits Dothan Special Olympics and the Alabama Law Enforcement Alliance for Peer Support.
Early bird registration is $25 per person from Aug. 9 through Aug. 29. Regular registration begins Aug. 30 and costs $30 per person.
Participants must register by Oct. 1 to be guaranteed a free event T-shirt.
