WIREGRASS, Ala. (WDNews) — According to Wiregrass Electric Cooperative, its Operation Roundup Charitable Foundation recently presented a $1,250 grant to Wiregrass Emergency Pregnancy Services to help fund facility improvements aimed at enhancing safety and accessibility.
According to the cooperative, the grant supported upgrades to key structural elements, including new steps at the client services entrance. Officials said the improvements help ensure the facility meets safety standards while providing “a safe, welcoming environment for those it serves.”
“We’re honored to support organizations that make a difference in our communities, and we’re grateful to our members whose Operation Roundup contributions make impactful grants like this possible,” Wiregrass Electric Cooperative said. “Thank you for helping us invest in the people and places that make the Wiregrass such a special place to call home!”
Operation Roundup is a voluntary program that allows Wiregrass Electric members to round up their monthly electric bills to the nearest dollar, with the extra change going toward community projects and charitable grants. According to the cooperative, about 85% of its members participate in the program.
Since the program began in 2015, Operation Roundup has awarded thousands of dollars to support community initiatives throughout the Wiregrass, including scholarships for local students, training and equipment for volunteer fire departments, playground equipment for schools, a specialized bed for premature babies at Southeast Alabama Medical Center, scholarships for medical students at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine, disaster assistance for local victims and organizations that help cancer patients across the region.
Founded in 1939, Wiregrass Electric Cooperative is a member-owned electric cooperative headquartered in Hartford. The cooperative serves members across Covington, Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry and Houston counties. According to the cooperative, investing in the communities it serves has remained one of its core principles since its founding.
