DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — According to event organizers, a community cleanup will be held Friday, July 10, as part of The Neighborhood Project Cleanup.

The cleanup will begin at 9 a.m. at Mac Rae Homes, where volunteers will meet before being divided into groups to clean multiple neighborhoods across the city. The event is being hosted by DonThaBondsman and GBMTRAB.

According to organizers, volunteers will clean up litter while also working to encourage and mentor young people in the community. Tommy Wilson, who is known as DonThaBondsman on Facebook, spoke with WDNews about the effort and said the cleanup is the first step in a broader vision that will eventually include launching a Big Brother program.

“It’s something I always wanted to do. When I was a young man we had those type of programs and they just faded away, so I’m tryn to show the next generation it’s a better way,” Wilson said.

According to Wilson, this weekend’s event is the first neighborhood cleanup he has organized. Depending on how many volunteers participate, groups will be assigned to different areas of the city to help clean up local neighborhoods.

Cleanup efforts are planned for:

Mac Rae Homes

Martin Homes

Henry Green Apartments

Johnson Homes

According to organizers, all cleanup supplies will be provided, and community members are encouraged to bring their energy and help make a difference while supporting a cleaner community and serving as positive role models for the next generation.

Those interested in volunteering or learning more can contact Tommy Wilson (DonThaBondsman) through Facebook Messenger, which he said is the preferred way to receive additional information.
