WEBB, Ala. (WDNews) — The Columbia Fire Department and Rescue is mourning the loss of Webb Volunteer Fire Department firefighter Eddie Hamm, remembering him as a dedicated public servant whose impact reached far beyond the fireground.
According to the Columbia Fire Department and Rescue, Hamm “passed away, leaving behind a legacy woven from service, hard work, and genuine kindness.”
In a statement shared Wednesday, the department reflected on Hamm’s character and commitment to others.
“Eddie was so much more than a firefighter. He was a devoted family man and the kind of person whose character spoke louder than any title,” the department said. “Whether he was standing on a fire scene or leaning on a fence line, Eddie carried a smile that could steady nerves and lift spirits.”
The department said Hamm was known for his willingness to help anyone in need.
“He was the type of man who would give you anything without a second thought, because helping others wasn’t something he did—it was who he was,” the statement said.
According to the department, firefighters had the privilege of serving alongside Hamm and the Webb Volunteer Fire Department for many years.
“On countless calls, he stood shoulder-to-shoulder with us, answering the same alarms, facing the same challenges, and sharing the same commitment to protecting this community,” the department said. “Eddie’s impact will echo far beyond today—through the people he helped, the friends he made, and the example he set.”
The department asked the community to remember Hamm’s family, friends and fellow firefighters during this difficult time.
“Please keep the Hamm family, his friends, Webb Volunteer Fire Department, and our entire community in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this heartbreaking loss,” the statement said.
The tribute concluded with a final message to their fellow firefighter.
“Rest easy, Eddie. Your watch has ended, but your legacy will continue to guide us. We’ll take it from here, brother.”
