DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — A medical emergency briefly delayed the Mardi Gras parade hosted by the Krewe of Kolosse in downtown Dothan, organizers said in a press release.
According to the krewe, the parade was temporarily paused after an individual experienced a medical emergency along the route. On-site public safety officials responded immediately, and the parade was stopped to allow emergency crews full and unobstructed access to the scene.
The individual was transported by ambulance for further medical evaluation and treatment.
Organizers said the affected area was professionally cleaned and secured in accordance with public safety protocols before festivities resumed. Once emergency personnel confirmed the route was safe, the parade continued without further incident.
The krewe expressed appreciation for the swift response from the Dothan Police Department, Houston County Sheriff’s Department, local fire personnel and EMS teams, citing their coordinated efforts in handling the situation safely and professionally.
“The Krewe fully supports the decision to prioritize health and safety above all else,” the release stated.
The Krewe of Kolosse said it remains committed to providing a safe, family-friendly event for the Wiregrass community and thanked parade participants, sponsors and attendees for their patience and cooperation.
Organizers said their thoughts are with the individual and their family and expressed hopes for a full recovery.
