ASHFORD, Ala. (WDNews) — The City of Ashford is working to improve accessibility in its downtown area with a new handicap-accessible sidewalk ramp.
Earlier this month, the Ashford City Council approved improvements to a section of sidewalk downtown. Once the work is completed, the city plans to add two additional handicap parking spaces on the west side of downtown.
City officials said the timing of the project is important because North Broadway is expected to be repaved within the next several weeks. Completing the sidewalk work first will allow both projects to come together without disrupting the newly paved roadway.
“It may seem like a small project, but improving accessibility and making our downtown easier for everyone to enjoy is an important part of the progress we’re making in Ashford,” the city said.
