ALEA Honors Forensic Scientists During National Week

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WDNews) — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is recognizing forensic professionals across the state as National Forensic Science Week comes to a close.

According to ALEA, forensic scientists play an important role in criminal investigations by using science to examine evidence and help investigators find answers.

ALEA highlighted members of its State Bureau of Investigation’s Latent Print Unit, which examines, compares and identifies fingerprints collected during investigations.

The agency said the unit’s work can provide an important connection between evidence and a criminal case, helping investigators piece together what happened.

Much of the work is done behind the scenes and requires close attention to detail, scientific training and accuracy.

“Much of their work happens behind the scenes, but their impact is significant,” ALEA said. “Their attention to detail, scientific expertise and commitment to accuracy help ensure investigators have reliable evidence as they seek the truth.”

ALEA also thanked all forensic professionals who support the agency’s work throughout Alabama.

“To our Latent Print employees and all of the forensic professionals who support ALEA’s mission: thank you for your dedication, professionalism and service to the people of Alabama,” the agency said.
