MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WDNews) — Gov. Kay Ivey welcomed Alabama students back to the classroom Friday as a new school year gets underway across the state.
In a video message, Ivey encouraged students to work hard, try new things and take advantage of the opportunities that come with a fresh school year.
“Being back in the classroom with your teachers and classmates is an exciting time. But I know that it might also be a little intimidating. And that’s ok,” Ivey said.
She encouraged students to read more, get involved, make new friends and be kind to their classmates. She also told students not to be afraid to ask questions or step outside their comfort zones.
“The start of a new school year offers a chance to start fresh, though,” Ivey said.
Ivey also thanked Alabama teachers, school leaders and parents for the role they play in helping students succeed.
“Know that each of you have my full support, and I will be cheering on all your success this school year. I will keep you, your teachers and parents in my prayers,” Ivey said.
She ended her message by encouraging students to make the most of the year.
“Now, let’s make this the best school year yet,” Ivey said. “May God continue to bless each of you and the great state of Alabama!”
