ANDALUSIA, Ala. (WDNews) — A Mobile man is facing several charges after authorities say he attempted to evade police during a pursuit through Andalusia over the July Fourth weekend.
According to information released Monday, Brady Evan Kirksey, 41, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with physical evidence, attempting to elude law enforcement, resisting arrest and obstructing government operations by using a false identity.
Police said the incident began when an officer attempted to stop Kirksey after observing suspicious activity near the Walmart on Martin Luther King Jr. Expressway. Instead of stopping, Kirksey allegedly fled on a motorcycle, leading officers through the city before abandoning the motorcycle and continuing on foot.
Authorities said the pursuit ended near Academy Drive after Kirksey was apprehended with the use of a Taser. During the chase, investigators said items were discarded and later recovered, including a backpack, a motorcycle helmet and a plastic bag containing a substance identified by Kirksey as “ice,” a street name for methamphetamine.
Following his arrest, authorities said Kirksey initially provided his brother’s name. Investigators later confirmed his identity using facial recognition technology and assistance from another officer.
Officials said Kirksey has previous felony drug convictions in Covington County. He remains in the Covington County Jail with a combined bond of $32,000.
