ALABAMA (WDNews) — Team Alabama has officially arrived in Minneapolis for the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games, where athletes from across the state will compete against some of the nation’s best while representing Alabama on the national stage.
The excitement is building as Team Alabama prepares for a week of competition, celebration and achievement at one of the largest sporting events for athletes with intellectual disabilities in the country.
Athletes have spent months training, practicing and preparing for the opportunity to compete in a variety of sports at the USA Games. Their journey has taken them from local training facilities and competitions to the national spotlight in Minneapolis.
Family members, friends and supporters across Alabama will have the opportunity to follow the action throughout the week. ESPN and Disney+ will provide coverage of the games, allowing fans to watch Team Alabama compete and celebrate their accomplishments.
The Opening Ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, June 20, at 6:30 p.m. Central time and will be streamed live on ESPN+ and Disney+. The event will feature the Parade of Athletes as teams from across the country are welcomed to the games.
A USA Games Preview Show will air Sunday, June 21, at 11 a.m. Central time on ABC.
Live competition coverage will take place June 23-26, with more than 48 hours of events streamed on ESPN+, including athletics, swimming and other competitions.
Special Olympics Alabama encouraged supporters to cheer on Team Alabama throughout the week as athletes showcase their hard work, determination and dedication while competing on the national stage.
