CLARKE COUNTY, Ala. (WDNews) — A 3-year-old child died after being found inside a vehicle in the Grove Hill area of Clarke County, according to multiple media reports and Clarke County Sheriff DeWayne Smith.
Authorities said the child’s parents reported him missing on June 12. Deputies with the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office and officers with the Grove Hill Police Department responded to the home and located the child in the back seat of a vehicle within about 15 to 20 minutes.
The child was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators have not determined how the child came to be inside the vehicle. The investigation remains ongoing.
According to reports, the Alabama Department of Human Resources removed three other children from the home. No arrests have been announced.
The investigation involves the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, Grove Hill Police Department and the First Judicial Circuit Major Crimes Unit.
Sheriff Smith asked that the family, community and first responders be kept in everyone’s thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
