OPELIKA, Ala. (WDNews) — According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, a two-vehicle crash in Bullock County has claimed the life of an Alabama Department of Transportation employee.
The crash occurred at approximately 9:55 a.m. on May 28. ALEA said Amad R. Jackson, 48, of Montgomery, was fatally injured when the trailer he was riding on was struck by a 2005 Mack CV713 dump truck driven by Ronnie L. Johnson, 53, of Hurtsboro.
According to ALEA, Jackson was an employee of the Alabama Department of Transportation and was a passenger on the trailer at the time of the crash. During the collision, Jackson was thrown from the trailer and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the trailer was being used for roadway maintenance and was being pulled by a 2024 Ford F-250 driven by Gary Battle, 46, of Uniontown, who is also an ALDOT employee.
Battle was injured in the crash and transported to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for treatment. Johnson was not injured, according to ALEA.
The crash occurred on Alabama 51 near the 78-mile marker, approximately seven miles west of Hurtsboro in Bullock County.
ALEA said troopers with the Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate the crash.
