BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WDNews) — Two people were killed and five others injured in a mass shooting Thursday night in Birmingham.
According to Birmingham Police, officers responded just after 8:30 p.m. to the 100 block of Holley Avenue on reports of multiple people being shot.
When officers arrived, they found seven people suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the two victims who died as 50-year-old Benard Duane Montez Watts and 33-year-old Diandra Young Johnson, both of Birmingham.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue transported all seven victims to UAB Hospital, where Watts and Johnson later died from their injuries.
Police said preliminary investigations indicate there was some type of gathering taking place when gunfire erupted. Officials also confirmed that none of the victims were juveniles.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional details about a suspect or motive have been released.
