COVINGTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDNews) – A teenager was hospitalized after being shot shortly after midnight Thursday at Hazelet Bridge in northern Covington County, according to a release by Covington County Sheriff Blake Turman.
Deputies said the juvenile victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was first taken to Andalusia Emergency Room and later transported to Fort Walton Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
While responding, deputies located a vehicle matching a description given at the scene. Inside were two juvenile males and one adult male. One of the juveniles, identified by witnesses as the shooter, was detained and is being held at the Covington County Jail. Authorities said firearms, illegal narcotics, and drug paraphernalia were recovered. The suspect is a juvenile from McKenzie.
Sheriff Turman praised the rapid response of law enforcement.
“I commend our officers for having the ability to split up and go in several directions,” Turman said in the release. “Not only was the shooter secured, but the victim was escorted to safety. The teamwork of all involved in this investigation was necessary to get this matter under control without delay.”
Because both the suspect and victim are juveniles, their names have not been released.
