MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WDNews) – The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is mourning the loss of active duty K-9 Bella, who died following a medical emergency on Tuesday, Aug. 26. She was 7 years old.
Bella served alongside her handler, Senior Trooper Seahorn, and was credited with helping apprehend numerous suspects, seizing narcotics including fentanyl, and confiscating hundreds of thousands of dollars in illicit assets. Officials said her work saved lives and strengthened public safety across Alabama.
One of Bella’s most notable contributions came last month during a traffic stop on Interstate 22 in Marion County. She alerted to narcotics that led to the seizure of approximately 150 pounds of marijuana and 30 pounds of THC edibles.
“Not only was Bella my faithful partner, but she was also mine and my family’s best friend,” Seahorn said. “She enjoyed life to the fullest and taught us to do the same.”
ALEA leaders also praised Bella’s service. Secretary Hal Taylor called her “a testament to what makes the ALEA K-9 Unit so special,” while Colonel Jonathan Archer, Director of the Department of Public Safety, said Bella’s professionalism and gentle nature “were unmatched.”
Bella passed away surrounded by her handler and family. ALEA officials said she will be remembered not only for her service but also for her loving personality and the strong bond she shared with those who worked alongside her.
