DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) – The Dothan City Board of Education has named Lee Jacobs as Acting Superintendent following a vote during Tuesday’s regular board meeting. The appointment comes as the board continues its search for a permanent replacement for Dr. Dennis Coe, who is retiring.
Jacobs currently serves as Assistant Superintendent over the Division of Accountability and Compliance. She will step into the acting role immediately to help maintain leadership continuity across the district.
Jacobs is a graduate of Dothan City Schools and brings 21 years of experience within the district. One of her children graduated from Dothan High School in 2024, and another is set to attend the school this fall.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as Acting Superintendent,” said Jacobs. “My focus will be on sustaining and enhancing the quality educational opportunities for all students in our district while supporting our dedicated staff during this period of change.”
Board members say the decision reflects their confidence in Jacobs’ ability to uphold the district’s academic standards and long-term strategic goals during the transition.
The Board of Education stated it remains committed to conducting a thorough and inclusive search process to find a permanent superintendent.
