NATIONAL (WDNews) – On Friday, the FDA authorized four menthol e-cigarette products from NJOY, a company acquired by Altria, the maker of Marlboro cigarettes, in 2023. This decision marks the first time non-tobacco flavored e-cigarettes have been approved for adult smokers. So far, the FDA has authorized the sale of only 27 e-cigarette products, with the previous approvals all being for tobacco-flavored options, which aren’t popular among younger users.

The FDA emphasized that this authorization applies solely to the four NJOY products and does not extend to any other menthol-flavored e-cigarettes. The agency also noted that this approval doesn’t imply the products are safe and advised non-tobacco users to avoid them. This move suggests the FDA sees potential in some flavored vaping products to help reduce traditional cigarette smoking.
