Dothan City Commission to Decide on Cowper’s Contract Renewal

The Dothan City Commission is gearing up for a crucial decision regarding the renewal of City Manager Kevin Cowper’s contract, which is set to expire on April 30. Cowper, who has been with Dothan since 2019, faces scrutiny following a recent scandal involving the city’s after-school feeding program.

During Cowper’s tenure, the Dothan government faced challenges, notably with the after-school feeding program scandal that garnered significant public attention. Despite this, Cowper has been instrumental in several initiatives, including his leadership in the revitalization efforts through the City Center Project.

Prior to joining Dothan, Cowper served as the Assistant City Manager in Auburn. Additionally, he was a candidate for the City Manager position in Destin, FL. However, Destin ultimately opted to hire internally for the role.

The upcoming decision by the City Commission regarding Cowper’s contract renewal will undoubtedly be closely watched by residents and stakeholders alike as they weigh the future leadership direction for the city.
