Inmate Dies at Coffee County Jail; Investigation Underway

At 1:41 a.m. on April 10, tragedy struck at the Coffee County Jail as an inmate, Chad Jones, 45, of Gadsden, passed away following a medical emergency while in custody. Jones was initially arrested by the Enterprise Police Department on charges of Public Intoxication.

Efforts by the Enterprise Rescue and the New Brockton Fire Department to revive Jones proved unsuccessful. While no foul play is suspected, Coffee County Sheriff Scott Byrd has requested an investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency to shed light on the incident.
