Remembering a Dothan Icon: Art Solomon, Photographer and Community Leader, Passes Away

Dothan, Alabama – The Wiregrass community mourns the loss of a beloved figure, Art Solomon, who passed away at his home late Sunday night. Solomon, renowned for his artistry behind the lens, served as the 2023 Grand Marshal for the National Peanut Festival, leaving an indelible mark on the region.

A fixture in both the community and the local art scene, Solomon’s legacy spans decades. He established his photography business, Art Solomon Photography, following the success of his first venture, Flash Photo, which opened its doors in 1973. For countless residents, Solomon’s lens captured cherished memories, from sports team portraits to school pictures, earning him a household name in Dothan.

Solomon’s impact extended beyond his studio, as he dedicated himself to the National Peanut Festival. Serving on the festival’s board of directors and leading as president in 1985, Solomon’s commitment to community celebrations was unmatched.

His selection as the Grand Marshal of the festival’s parade in 2023 was a testament to his enduring influence and contributions.

A memorial service to honor Solomon’s life will be held at First Methodist Church of Dothan on Monday, April 15, at 2:00 p.m. Holman Headland Mortuary is entrusted with the arrangements as the community gathers to celebrate the remarkable legacy of a true Dothan icon.
