Massive Gunfire Incident Friday Night and Over the Weekend Information

The Wiregrass Daily News reached out to the Dothan Police Department regarding the recent surge in gunfire over the weekend.

Lt. Owens from the department emphasized their proactive stance in addressing the issue, stating they are actively gathering intelligence to tackle the concerning  situation head-on.

The unsettling incident, which occurred on Friday night and continued into the weekend, saw approximately 45 shots fired near Tate Dr. and South Park Ave around 7:50 P.M. Concerned citizens reported witnessing an individual armed with a long-range weapon in the vicinity.

In response to the escalating situation, law enforcement initiated a thorough search of the area, prompting a chase of a suspect throughout the South Park area around 8:40 P.M. Subsequent updates indicated the presence of law enforcement on Brakin St. off Woodland Dr., with reports of additional shots heard in the Tate Dr. area around 9:47 P.M.

As the night unfolded, residents remained on edge as over an hour passed without any further updates on the situation. Despite the challenges, Lt. Owens urged the community to remain vigilant and report any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem.

With law enforcement diligently patrolling the area and responding to calls, residents are advised to stay informed and alert. Although at this time no arrest has been confirmed. As of Sunday night, more shots were heard in the vicinity of S. Park and also in the Ford Country Area off of East Selma St. The Wiregrass Daily News will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
