Geneva, AL – In the early hours of April 8th, 2024, Geneva PD responded to a burglary turned deadly fire incident on Pine Avenue. As officers rushed to the scene, they learned the suspect had ignited the residence, trapping its occupants.

Quick action by the first responding officer led to the safe rescue of the trapped residents through a bedroom window.

The situation escalated rapidly as flames engulfed a neighboring home before the fire department’s arrival, prompting the evacuation of its homeowner.

Multiple fire departments and law enforcement agencies joined forces in response, including Geneva Fire Department, along with Coffee Springs, Hartford, and Samson Fire Departments, as well as the Geneva County Sheriff’s Department and Covington County Sheriff’s Office.

A joint investigation, spearheaded by the Alabama Fire Marshal’s Office, is underway. Initial findings suggest arson as the cause, with indications that the initial residence was targeted deliberately. Authorities reassure the public, stating there’s no ongoing threat to safety.

The investigation is ongoing and GPD is looking for the suspect. If you have any information please contact Geneva Police Dept.
