Earlier this morning the state of Alabama executed a man who was convicted of beating an elderly woman to death back in 2001.  James Barber was put to death by lethal injection at 1:56am after the Supreme Court denied a last-minute appeal for a stay.  Barber was the first inmate executed after the state’s review of its execution protocols.  Barber was put to death for killing 75-year-old Dorothy Epps during a robbery at her home in Madison County.
