DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — A longtime Wiregrass tradition is coming to an end as Sadie’s Flea Market prepares to close after nearly 40 years in business.
The family-owned market will officially close Sunday, Sept. 27, 2026, according to the owner, who told WDNews the decision comes as the family prepares to retire.
“Yes, ma’am. We are closing,” she said. “We’re closing the business and retiring.”
For decades, Sadie’s has been a familiar weekend stop for shoppers across the Wiregrass, with vendors filling its indoor and outdoor spaces with everything from household goods and collectibles to clothing and other finds.
The market’s story began with the owner’s parents.
“It was a family-owned and operated business,” she said. “My mother was Sadie. She started the business with my father.”
Her parents eventually retired from the business about 26 years ago, but the family continued operating the market that carried Sadie’s name.
When asked how long Sadie’s has been part of the Wiregrass, the owner said, “Almost 40 years.”
As the final weekend approaches, she said there are no plans for another business or a new location.
“We don’t have any plans whatsoever,” she said. “We’re just retiring.”
The Sept. 27 closing will mark the end of a nearly four-decade run for a business that became a familiar part of weekend life in Dothan.
