Three Convicted in Coffee, Pike Theft Cases

ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WDNews) — Three people have been convicted in separate theft-related jury trials in Coffee and Pike counties, according to the 12th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.

The cases involved two retail theft investigations in Enterprise and a contract involving a fire protection system at an apartment complex in Troy.

Hope Garzarek

Hope Garzarek appeared for trial Wednesday, Sept. 16, in the Enterprise Division of Coffee County.

According to the district attorney’s office, Garzarek was accused of working with another person to steal merchandise from a major Enterprise retailer on seven occasions between August and October 2025.

The stolen merchandise was valued at more than $900.

Assistant District Attorney Kylie Crespo prosecuted the case. Circuit Judge Henry “Sonny” Reagan presided over the trial.

A jury found Garzarek guilty. Her sentencing hearing is scheduled for Nov. 19.

Michael Duncan

Michael Duncan appeared for trial Thursday, Sept. 17, in the Enterprise Division of Coffee County.

According to the district attorney’s office, Duncan was accused of working with another person to steal from a different major retailer in Enterprise on July 11, 2025.

The merchandise was valued at $1,515.

Crespo also prosecuted Duncan’s case, with Reagan presiding over the trial.

A jury found Duncan guilty. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for Nov. 19.

Randy Herring

Randy Herring appeared for trial Sept. 9 in Pike County on a charge of first-degree theft by deception.

According to the district attorney’s office, Herring entered into a contract to provide a fire protection system for a local landlord’s apartment complex in Troy.

The landlord paid Herring $25,947. Testimony and evidence presented during the trial showed Herring made no attempt to complete work connected to the contract and did not refund the money, the district attorney’s office said.

Deputy District Attorney Ternisha Jones prosecuted the case. Circuit Judge Jeff Kelley presided over the trial.

A jury found Herring guilty Sept. 10. The jury also found an aggravating factor, determining Herring was involved in taking property of great monetary value.

Herring’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for Nov. 10.

District Attorney James Tarbox thanked the prosecutors, jurors and law enforcement officers involved in the cases.

“I appreciate the hard work of Mrs. Crespo and Mrs. Jones on these cases,” Tarbox said. “I also appreciate the service of the members of these juries. Far too often our communities have thefts occurring where stores, businesses, and individuals are deprived of their hard-earned money or things.

“Thefts increase costs to our society by driving up the price of goods, insurance, and security. Our office will ask the court to hold these defendants accountable for their actions.”
