DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — The Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce is asking local businesses to help expand workplace learning opportunities for area high school students.
According to the chamber, the effort is being conducted in partnership with Dothan City Schools and Houston County Schools. It will provide students with opportunities to earn school credit while gaining practical workplace experience through co-op and internship programs.
Participating businesses must have a valid business license and comply with all applicable child labor laws. Students must work at least 10 hours per week to receive co-op credit.
Businesses may also offer job-shadowing opportunities. This option allows more flexibility with schedules and the number of hours students participate.
The chamber said participating businesses could:
Identify and develop potential future employees
Provide students with real-world work experience
Help students explore careers and develop professional skills
Build relationships with local schools and educators
Help strengthen the community’s future workforce
Businesses interested in participating should complete a brief Business Interest Survey by Monday, Sept. 28. The survey is expected to take no more than five minutes.
Complete the Business Interest Survey.
Completing the survey does not require a business to participate. The information will help the chamber and the school systems identify businesses that may be interested in supporting future opportunities.
