DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — Wallace Community College-Dothan Adult Education is celebrating Adult Education and Family Literacy Week with free GED practice testing and a community book drive.
According to WCCD, the college will hold its “See 4 Free” enrollment event Monday, Sept. 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Adult Education Building #77, 1141 Wallace Drive in Dothan.
The event gives prospective and current adult education students a chance to take the GED Ready practice test at no cost. The test helps participants see whether they are ready for the official GED exam and identify areas where they may need more preparation.
Those who pass a GED Ready practice test will receive a free voucher for the corresponding official GED test subject.
“Adult education creates pathways to employment, postsecondary education, increased confidence, and greater opportunities for individuals and their families,” WCCD Adult Education Director Barbara Steger said. “The See 4 Free event is designed to remove barriers, help individuals understand where they are academically, and connect them with the support they need to continue moving forward.”
Participants can also learn about free adult education classes, academic preparation, enrollment services and other resources. Everyone who participates in the See 4 Free event will be entered into a drawing for prizes.
Participants must be at least 18 years old and have an Alabama state-issued identification card.
WCCD is also holding a community book drive through Sept. 30. Donated books will be placed on the Adult Education Bookshelf, where students can choose books for reading and personal enrichment.
“We want our Adult Education Bookshelf to become a resource that encourages students to read beyond the classroom,” Steger said. “Every donated book represents an opportunity for a student to discover something new, strengthen literacy skills, or simply experience the enjoyment of reading.”
Books may be dropped off at the Adult Education Building on the Wallace Campus in Dothan or at the Administration “A” Building on the Sparks Campus in Eufaula. Donors in the Dothan area may also schedule a book pickup.
