DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — Drivers in downtown Dothan should prepare for lane closures and possible delays beginning Monday, Sept. 21, as the city starts an intersection improvement project at Main and Oates streets.
According to the City of Dothan, the work is connected to the City Hall relocation project and will include installation of a new traffic signal and pedestrian facilities.
Construction is expected to last about six weeks. Daytime lane closures are planned Monday through Thursday, typically from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Work will begin on the northeast and northwest corners of the intersection during the week of Sept. 21. The outside westbound lane of Main Street will be closed from Foster Street to just east of the new City Hall. The outside northbound lane of Oates Street will be closed from Crawford Street to just north of the Houston County Courthouse.
Portable message boards, arrow boards and signs will direct traffic through the area. The city said additional lane closure updates will be provided as the project progresses.
Commercial truck traffic should use Ross Clark Circle.
Drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes, expect delays and use caution while traveling through the construction area.
