DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — One adult and two teenagers are facing charges after a man was shot twice during what police say was a planned robbery in Dothan.
According to the Dothan Police Department, officers received reports of a man with a gunshot wound just before 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, in the 600 block of Moates Street.
Police said officers arrived and found the victim attempting to drive himself to the hospital. Officers provided medical aid until he could be taken to a local hospital.
At the hospital, doctors determined the man had been shot twice in the back. He was treated and released the same day.
According to police, investigators learned the victim had gone to the area to meet someone to purchase drugs. Police said when the victim arrived, he realized he was being set up to be robbed.
As the victim fled, police said two people fired handguns in his direction, striking him twice.
Investigators followed several leads and identified 20-year-old Zy’Keria Akeelha Andrews of Dothan as the person accused of setting up the robbery, according to police.
Police also arrested a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old who investigators say were responsible for shooting at the victim as he fled.
Andrews was charged with one count of first-degree robbery and booked into the Houston County Jail on a $90,000 bond.
According to police, both teenagers were charged as adults with one count each of first-degree robbery, first-degree assault and shooting into an occupied vehicle. Both were booked into the Houston County Jail and are being held without bond.
Police did not release the teenagers’ names, citing Alabama juvenile privacy laws.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police said additional charges are possible.
