DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — Four members of the Houston County Sheriff’s Office are stepping into new leadership roles as the department prepares for a changing of the guard.
According to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Donald Valenza announced the promotions of Lt. Josh Robertson, Sgt. Christopher Braman, Sgt. Rhys Griffin and Cpl. Justin Dodson.
The Sheriff’s Office said the promotions come as several longtime members of the department have recently retired, with others preparing to retire in the near future.
“These men and women have given many years of dedicated service to this department and the citizens of Houston County,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “Their experience, leadership, and commitment have helped shape who we are today, and their departure leaves a hole that cannot simply be filled overnight.”
The department said the retirements also create an opportunity and responsibility for a new generation of leaders.
“But with every retirement comes an opportunity—and a responsibility—for the next generation of leaders to step forward and man the watch in their place,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
According to the department, Valenza is confident the four newly promoted members are prepared to take on their added responsibilities.
The Sheriff’s Office said leadership includes setting an example, making difficult decisions and carrying forward the standards established by those who served before them.
“We congratulate Lt. Robertson, Sgt. Braman, Sgt. Griffin, and Cpl. Dodson on this well-earned achievement,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “We also thank those who have recently retired, and those approaching retirement, for setting the foundation upon which the next generation will continue to build.”
The department said that while its personnel may change through the years, its responsibility to Houston County remains.
“The names and faces may change, but the mission continues and the watch is never left unmanned.”
