LOS ANGELES (WDNews) — Tim Curry, the British actor known for memorable roles in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, It, Clue and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, has died. He was 80.
According to The Associated Press and Reuters, Curry died at his Los Angeles home. His longtime manager and friend, Marcia Hurwitz, confirmed his death. A cause of death was not immediately released.
Curry became a pop culture icon after playing Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show. He first played the character in the original London stage production of The Rocky Horror Show in 1973 before taking the role to the big screen.
He later became known to another generation of fans as Pennywise the Clown in the 1990 television adaptation of Stephen King’s It. His other well-known roles included Wadsworth in Clue, Rooster in Annie and the suspicious Plaza Hotel concierge in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
Curry also had an extensive stage career. He earned three Tony Award nominations for performances in Amadeus, My Favorite Year and Monty Python’s Spamalot. His voice work included numerous animated television shows and films, and he won a Daytime Emmy Award for Peter Pan & the Pirates.
Curry suffered a major stroke in 2012 that affected his mobility and left him using a wheelchair. He later returned to performing and continued making appearances, including returning to the big screen in the 2024 horror film Stream.
Curry was born April 19, 1946, in Cheshire, England.
