3-Year-Old Critically Injured in Hartford Shooting

HARTFORD, Ala. (WDNews) — A 3-year-old child was critically injured in a shooting early Sunday morning in Hartford after reportedly gaining access to a firearm.

Emergency crews responded at approximately 5:12 a.m. to a report of a child suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

According to dispatch reports, the firearm involved was reported to be a .40-caliber firearm. Reports indicate the child was able to access the firearm. It remains unclear exactly how the shooting happened.

Slocomb Fire and Rescue transported the child to Flowers Hospital in Dothan. The Dothan Police Department provided an escort for the ambulance during the emergency transport.

Hartford authorities confirmed to WDNews that the child was later flown to Sacred Heart Hospital for additional treatment.

The child was reported to be in critical condition.

According to Hartford Police Department an active investigation into the incident is underway.
