ESTO, Fla. (WDNews) — An Alabama man is facing multiple charges after deputies say he attempted to break into several businesses in Esto before trying to flee.
According to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Aug. 15 to a report of a suspicious person wearing a ski mask and attempting to break into businesses.
Deputies said the suspect ran toward a nearby vehicle as they arrived. Deputies boxed in the vehicle to prevent it from leaving and ordered the occupant out. The man was identified as James Hobbs of Alabama.
Investigators said deputies found a pickax, which a caller reported seeing the suspect with, along with a ski mask.
According to the sheriff’s office, Hobbs admitted during questioning to knocking the glass out of the door at Big Daddy Liquor and attempting to break into the Smoke Shack and Express Lane.
Hobbs was arrested and charged with three counts of attempted burglary, possession of burglary tools, criminal mischief and possession of a controlled substance.
Sheriff John Tate thanked the citizen who reported the suspicious activity.
“If you see something suspicious, don’t hesitate to call and report it. Your call could help prevent a crime or help law enforcement apprehend a suspect,” the sheriff’s office said.
Tate also commended the responding deputies for their quick response, professionalism and work in locating and taking the suspect into custody.
