DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — Wiregrass parents and caregivers are being urged to check their infant car seats after nearly 23,000 Evenflo products were recalled nationwide over a potential safety issue.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Evenflo is recalling 22,981 Revolve180 LiteMax NXT rear-facing infant car seats, bases and travel systems.
The recall is nationwide, meaning families across southeast Alabama, southwest Georgia and the Florida Panhandle should check their car seats to see if they are affected.
The problem involves the car seat’s recline indicator. Federal safety documents say the indicator may allow the seat to be installed in a position that leaves a child sitting more upright than intended.
During federal testing using a 12-month-old crash-test dummy, measurements exceeded federal safety requirements under certain testing conditions. NHTSA said the issue could increase the risk of injury during a crash.
The recall includes certain Revolve180 LiteMax NXT infant seats and bases, along with Omni Ultra and Shyft Intuiti travel systems containing the affected seat.
Parents should check the model information on their car seat to determine whether it is included in the recall.
Evenflo plans to provide affected owners with a free repair kit. Interim notification letters are expected to begin going out in September.
