DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — According to the City of Dothan Government, a project inspired by one Therapeutic Recreation participant’s personal experience has grown into a community effort to encourage patients at Southeast Health.
City officials said Therapeutic Recreation participant Zach came up with the idea after a family member stayed in Southeast Health’s Critical Care Unit. During the visit, Zach was inspired by a hand-painted ceiling tile above the hospital bed and brought the idea back to the Doug Tew Therapeutic Recreation Center.
According to the city, staff and participants embraced the project, and over the following weeks, more than 60 participants and staff members created inspirational ceiling tiles for every bed in Southeast Health’s Critical Care Unit.
The completed tiles were recently delivered with the goal of bringing hope, comfort and encouragement to patients and their families, according to the city.
The City of Dothan thanked Southeast Health for partnering on the project and recognized the Therapeutic Recreation participants and staff for their efforts to make a positive impact in the community.
