DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — According to the Friends of the Dothan Houston County Library System, the annual Big Book Sale will return Aug. 13-23, giving shoppers the chance to browse thousands of gently used books, movies, music and other treasures while supporting local library programs.
The sale will be held at the Westgate Recreation Center Gym, located at 501 Recreation Road in Dothan.
The event kicks off with a Friends of the Library Members Only Sale from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13. Current Friends of the Library members will have the first opportunity to shop before the sale opens to the public. Those who are not already members can join at the door with a minimum $5 household membership.
The sale opens to the general public Aug. 14-23. Shopping hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays, and 2 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Sundays.
According to organizers, shoppers will find thousands of books, DVDs, CDs, audiobooks, vinyl records, vintage books and other items available for purchase. Fiction books are organized alphabetically by the author’s last name, while nonfiction books are sorted by category, including history, cookbooks, poetry and more, making it easier for visitors to find what they’re looking for.
Most books are affordably priced, with hardcover books for $2, paperbacks for $1, children’s books for 50 cents, and DVDs, CDs and audiobooks for $1 each. Vintage books and specialty items will be individually priced.
The sale also includes several clearance days for bargain hunters. Items will be half price Aug. 19-20, 25 cents each Aug. 21-22, and all remaining items will be free on the final day, Aug. 23, while supplies last.
Volunteers are typically available to help shoppers transport purchases, but organizers also encourage visitors to bring rolling carts, wagons, boxes or reusable bags to carry larger purchases.
Cash, checks and major credit cards will be accepted.
According to the Friends of the Dothan Houston County Library System, proceeds from the annual sale help support library programs, services and special projects throughout the Dothan Houston County Library System.
