DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — According to the City of Dothan’s Weekly Updates for July 20-24, 2026, the city celebrated several community accomplishments and announced upcoming opportunities for residents and local businesses.
Downtown Dothan Main Street officially celebrated its designation as an Alabama Main Street community during a public announcement held Wednesday, July 22. According to the city, Downtown Dothan Main Street also officially joined the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The update also highlighted the success of the 29th Annual Youth Fishing Day at Eastgate Park. According to the city, hundreds of young anglers and their families participated in a day of fishing, competitions, prizes, complimentary breakfast and refreshments. The first 100 attendees also received reusable goodie bags and a $20 Dick’s Sporting Goods gift certificate.
The city said the event was made possible through the support of community partners, sponsors and volunteers.
“More than just a day of fishing, Youth Fishing Day encourages children to enjoy the outdoors, practice patience and sportsmanship, develop an appreciation for environmental stewardship, and create lasting family memories,” the City of Dothan said.
The city also announced that vendor applications are now being accepted for several upcoming community events this fall and winter, including the 22nd Annual Health & Wellness Workshop, Boo Fest, Paws & Claws and the North Pole Stroll.
According to the city, local businesses, artisans, nonprofits and food vendors are encouraged to apply online. Officials noted that all participating vendors must have either a City of Dothan Business License or a Special Event License.
