JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WDNews) — A stolen vehicle investigation early Sunday morning ended with the arrest of a man with an active felony warrant after he allegedly fled from deputies on foot.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded at approximately 3:24 a.m. to Danford Bay Road in Graceville following a report of a vehicle crash.
When deputies arrived, they determined the Jeep involved had been reported stolen earlier that morning by the Panama City Beach Police Department.
Investigators identified the driver as David Travis Dickens, who was wanted on an active felony warrant for failure to appear in connection with a previous fleeing and eluding case.
Deputies received information that Dickens was at a nearby residence. As they attempted to make contact, he allegedly ran through a field toward a wooded area despite repeated commands to stop.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Tracking Team was called to assist, established a track and located Dickens a short time later. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility.
Dickens was charged with one count of resisting an officer without violence. Additional charges related to the stolen vehicle are pending as the investigation continues.
Sheriff Donnie Edenfield thanked the Florida Highway Patrol, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Panama City Beach Police Department for their assistance, saying their teamwork helped bring the incident to “a safe and successful conclusion.”
